Italian Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Tender, herb-flecked meatballs simmered in a bright tomato sauce. Serve over pasta or stuff into a crusty roll.

Ingredients

  • 400 g ground beef
  • 200 g ground pork
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp flat-leaf parsley
  • 800 g crushed San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil

Instructions

  1. 1Soak breadcrumbs in milk 5 min. Mix with beef, pork, egg, Parmesan, garlic, and parsley. Season.
  2. 2Roll into golf ball-sized meatballs. Chill 30 min.
  3. 3Brown meatballs in olive oil in batches. Remove.
  4. 4Simmer crushed tomatoes with a pinch of sugar and salt 10 min.
  5. 5Nestle meatballs into sauce. Cover and cook on low 25–30 min. Finish with fresh basil.
